Today I was inspired by these flowers in my rose garden. How gorgeous is to sit down on the grass and let the sweet and subtle fragrance of a rose greet you.
I have several shrubs from David Austen’s collection (click on the name to get his book, its awesome!) of repeating roses that I completely adore. The time to go ahead and get your roses on the garden or on a balcony in NOW!!!
Here are some of them in my small garden at “la Ilusion”: click on their names to see more and I suggest you to order some of your own, it you are keen on roses and having your own flowers, its now the right time of the season…
- Abraham Darby (sadly didn’t get to find it on a plant but I found the seeds, not sure how easy it is, but its worth to try) but if not try here
- Graham Thomas
- Heritage
- Scepter d’Isle
- Winchester Cathedral (this I found on seeds, not sure how easy it is, but its worth to try)
- The Pilgrim
- Eglantyne
My favourite one is the Abraham Darby one because of its rich, fruity fragrance and refreshing sharpness almost like spice. It also repeats very well. and the shape, it resembles one of a peony but in salmony pink degrade. Plus it lasts for a decent amount of time on a flower pot arrangement, with lots of fresh water every day. Sadly I couldn’t find this exact plant to order, but this one is very similar Its called Strawberry Hill ( click on the name to see more)
I hope you enjoy!

Here I have Winchester Cathedral, and Abraham Darby together on a bouquet, ready to take inside!

Beautiful roses ! I have been to Winchester cathedral, it is amazing. I adore yellow roses which have the best natural scent.
Gracias for sharing ♡☆♡
Love it!!
So lovely!!! I love seeing your garden! Roses are my absolute favorite. Their smell and colors are just heaven to me and I love that they last longer than most cut flowers. So you grew most of these roses from seeds? Is that difficult/time consuming? Ive only ever grown from seedling but I’d love to learn as I just bought my first home and finally have soil to plant in! Love to hear your advice. I live in Pittsburgh,pa, USA so getting warm now.
Love you and your blog so much!

Hi! No I did buy the plants, never tried planting seeds. I’m not sure how difficult it might be. I prefer to get the plant and transfer it to a pot or bed in the ground. In the post there were some plants that I really wanted to suggest but couldn’t find them on a planted pot, and one of them happend to be my favourite!
Anyways.. I dont see why it could be hard to grow them from seeds, you might get better help if you call your closer nursery.
Good luck!

Delfina: thanks for the beautiful article. Here in Lake Forest, we are at the beginning of Spring. I love flowers and I am blessed to have a big beautiful garden. I learn a lot from your article.
Will try to incorporate some of these roses in my garden. Be way to start my day by learning about roses🙏
I so happy to hear that!! roses are so easy to look after. the less you do for them the more they’ll yield. look after bugs and give them good compost when planting and thats it. The book is very helpful!
Good luck!
You do everything so well. You’re an inspiration. Loving the simple sweet things in life that are so important that humans forget.
You Go Go Girl!
thank you !

PS. Thanks for the links you supply!
Beautiful! I have David Austen’s book and I’ve grown his roses. My fav is Graham Thomas. Thanks for sharing your fabulous life.
I am always looking for new flowers to add to my flowere beds. I have been a little bit afraid to try roses. I’ve always heard they are hard to take care of, but your comments have inspired me to give it a try. Maybe I will start with one in a pot first and see hOW that goes. I do love the wonderful scent of a rose.
Ps. I enjoy your blogs very much!
Hola Delfi: I love this post. thank you so much for sharing! I can see how much you love roses from the look on your face: you look ecstatic!!! Intitally adoRe it!!
I planted an abraham Darby in the garden of the building I live in (Im still working on having my piece of land/ balcony or w/e works) and it was always exploding with her fragrant pompoms. It was sad because somebody cut (killed it) by mistake. I was devastated. I tried to grow other David Austin roses indoors but it didn’t work. Im now moving to another state w better weather for roses and will make sure to have my garden. Its now a non negotiable for me.
i am also passionate about roses. Its funny I inherited this love of flowers from my mother. She loves orchids and has like a million of them, and they are all blooming like all the time. I think it’s love and discipline. Me, I love roses. I can’t wait to have my own luscious garden.
I trust a person who loves & appreciates animals and flowers. Much love to you and many many blessings.
Oh you must must must visit “el generalife” in la Alhambra (Granada, Andalucía Spain) when the roses are bloominghave you been? , you must if you haven’t been.
Xx
Next time Im in spain ill make a point to go to la alambra
I hope you can grow your roses back again. They are so beautiful, and YES I enjoy them as much as I can.
Ok, you’ve convinced me, I’m going to buy Abraham Darby. YOur bouquet of it and Winchester Cathedral is gorgeous! Love the greenhouse too!
