Yesterday something really amazing happened. We received an email from editor in chief of Architectural Digest, Amy Astley letting us know that our stables were chosen to be featured on the cover of this magazine.
Ever since we started thinking of what our stables would look like, we thought to create something beautiful, pure and practical. For that we knew who we would hire for this job. Our friends and talented architects Juan Ignacio Ramos and his son Ignacio. We had previously worked with them a long time ago, creating our home in 2005, and their point of view towards design, shape, and clean lines, not only captured our eye, but also made us realized that we shared same philosophy of life.
The fact that this building made of conctrete, iron, and wood, is integrated in the most organic way, without disrupting the natural geography of the place, was something that we really wanted to achieve.
We also thought of this place as our “living room” as we actually end up spending a lot of time here. There’s a small kitchen, the tackroom is our favourite spot to hang out with the fireplace and all. And there are several unexpected spaces outside to have lunch or dinner, including the gardens on the entire roof. We really love it here, so do our children and I belive that our ponies live very happy here as well. We also thought of this as a homage to them, for their noble hearts.
The journey of this past 3 and a half years of building it was so much fun, and enriching for us. I hope you enjoy this post.
I specially want to thank Amy Astley for believing in our story, Oberto Gili for taking the most beautiful portraits of our place with his heart, Joyce for being his better half, Derek Blasberg for your wonderful words on this amazing magazine. To Carlos Sousa for taking the time in connecting all af us. To everyone that collaborated with us for this, and to the love of my life, the one person that stands by my side, always supporting me in the most passionate way, Nacho Figueras.
